All about that bass – ROW80 check in

I don’t have a great deal to report in terms of progress. For those of you who read my mid-week check in, I took a break to help my daughter celebrate becoming a teenager! Yesterday, I took her to the coast (Blackpool Pleasure Beach). She decided at the last minute she wanted to take three friends. As that made four teenagers, I became a glorified taxi driver and I couldn’t even take anyone with me. Despite being ‘cool’ for about five minutes on her birthday (probably due to presents and the hours I spent decorating her bedroom), I’m apparently not cool enough to accompany four girls around the park. So I was relegated! I had to wait in a café, for 6 hours, no less – until they’d been on every ride at least twice! It started off well. I had my phone, my Kindle app, and the novel I’ve been looking forward to (False Awakening by Callum McLaughlin). So, with a latte, a sugary treat, and my trusty app, I began to read. The mechanical sounds of a nearby rollercoaster, music blaring from another ride, screams, chatter and the coffee machine – it all faded away as I slipped into another world. Forty minutes later, my battery died. If I hadn’t looked enough of a loser, I might have wept! Instead I took out my trusty notebook and began to write.

It was along day, made all the longer because of the return trip. I had to listen to four excited girls sing All About That Bass by Meghan Trainor. Let’s just say it was an interesting rendition, and now it’s stuck in my head!

I did manage to get a lot of writing done, which is great. I’ve also spent most of the day editing, so I hit two goals 🙂

I hope you had a productive week, and an enjoyable weekend.

Until next time

Mel

  1. I sympathise! I too have spent hours waiting around Blackpool Pleasure Beach! Sounds as if you made the most of it and your daughter had a day to remember 🙂

  2. You definitely won some hard earned parent points with that one! I’m glad your daughter had a great birthday and that you’ve still managed to keep making good progress with the writing/editing 🙂

  3. I think you’re cool! Admittedly, I’m not particularly ‘cool’ by uni student standards, but clubbing is overrated. I’d much rather read!

Good work keeping up with your goals and being productive this week! 😀

  4. I’m late, sorry about that, It looks like my groove had either ditched for me someone else, or had been kidnapped. Ah, looks like you’re busy in the editing department, editing Edward Scissorhands style. Keep on writing 😉
Passing you a cup of triple extra strength coffee, “so rich, so dark not even light can escape from it’s surface. or this one, coffee that has fighting spirit…. Chuck Norris approved”

    • Love it! I Chuck Norris approved coffee…that’s my kind of beverage 🙂 Love the Edward Scissorhands editing too – that’s exactly what it feels like! I’m late too. I’ll catch up with your update later today.

    • Thanks, Quanie. Newborns are a great joy, but they do demand our time 🙂 We’re so exhausted that even when we manage to take a break, we usually sleep through whatever task we’d intended. I remember those days well, and my sister is sleep deprived at the moment!

  5. I always refused to be chauffeur. That sounds noble, but all it meant was that usually the kids fond a different parent to drive who didn’t mind it. Twere I to do it again, I don’t know. I might go your route.

Battery died! And who carries a recharger with them? I do on a plane, but not anywhere else. I feel your pain.

  6. Aww, shucks, reading time sounds good to me! Always good to have your notebook handy, though, isn’t it? I still only draft on paper and then I have to go back and type all my stories!

I’d love to hear from you.
